For the first-timers
People who haven’t painted since school, and are quietly convinced they can’t. Every workshop is beginner-friendly, with every material supplied.
About
I'm Mariska Joynt, a Pretoria-based artist and tutor, and the creative hands behind every workshop and custom art kit at Grey Art.
Welcome
Mariska is a self-taught artist and art tutor based in Pretoria. She is the person behind every workshop, box and brush roll that Grey Art sends out.
She enjoys helping beginners unlock their creativity. It’s the idea behind every Grey Art workshop, box and kit.
My journey
Mariska is a self-taught artist working across watercolour, acrylic, oil, graphite and realistic pencil or chalk portraiture.
Some older artwork carries a previous surname or signature; it’s still hers.
Teaching
People who haven’t painted since school, and are quietly convinced they can’t. Every workshop is beginner-friendly, with every material supplied.
People who used to paint and want it back, or who want to work on one particular technique properly.
Friends, families and small groups who mostly came for the company, which is a perfectly good reason to pick up a brush.
Workshops
Small, beginner-friendly sessions with plenty of one-on-one guidance and every material supplied, from relaxed Paint & Sip evenings to more focused guided sessions.
Made by hand
Not everyone can get to a workshop. Mariska packs each Starter Box by hand, and sews and binds handmade creative tools so painting can carry on at home.
In the workplace
Mariska brings more than ten years of corporate experience to Grey Art, and understands what a shared creative session can do for a team away from their usual work.
Grey Art hosts Paint & Sip sessions, guided workshops and theme-based team building for 6 to 100 people, anywhere in South Africa.
Community
Pretoria is home. I volunteer with the Moot Project, using art to help brighten the neighbourhoods around me, and I take on community and fundraising sessions where I can.
If you are organising something for a group who would not otherwise get to do this, please ask. I would rather hear about it than not.
The work
Genuine Grey Art work and workshop photography.
In their words
Come and make something
You don’t have to be an artist to make something beautiful, and you don’t have to decide today which of these is the right way in.
